We hike the Carlon Falls Trail, a shaded 3-mile out-and-back along the South Fork of the Tuolumne River that crosses into Yosemite to a waterfall and swimming hole. Then we drive through Thousand Trails Yosemite Lakes RV Resort as another camping option closer to the Big Oak Flat entrance, stop at historic Rainbow Pool, and look back at a birthday dinner at Gateway Tapas & Spirits (with puppies!) and a meal at the Iron Door Saloon, the oldest saloon in California. We also spot the YARTS bus into the park, then walk among 2,000-year-old giant sequoias and the famous tunnel tree in the Tuolumne Grove.
