Katon Moyong on Arunachal's 47-Year Fight Against the Siang Mega Dam | No Dam, No Compromise | News9 In an exclusive conversation with News9, Arunachal Pradesh activist Katon Moyong, popularly known as 'Abor Man', speaks about the 47-year-long resistance against the proposed 11,200 MW Siang Upper Multipurpose Project. Reiterating his opposition to the mega dam, Moyong rejects the Pema Khandu-led government's invitation for talks, saying there can be no compromise on the Siang River. He explains why the Adi community fears displacement, environmental damage and the loss of ancestral land, cultural heritage and traditional livelihoods. The proposed project is being projected as strategically important for India's water security amid concerns over China's massive hydropower project on the Yarlung Tsangpo in Tibet. But for indigenous communities, the Siang is much more than a river. What does the government want from this project, why are local communities resisting it, and can development and national security concerns be balanced with indigenous rights?
