Each year, three clubs from the Premier Division will get relegated and three clubs from the Championship Division will get promoted. The top two clubs in the Championship Division will automatically get promoted, while clubs in the 3rd through 6th places will participate in a promotion playoff. The top four teams in the MLS Premier Division will participate in the MLS Cup playoffs.
