Ivy and Oak

The ivy wraps the steady oak, The shoreline holds the tide, The daylight clears the heavy cloak Where midnight shadows hide. No silver star is left to drift Beyond the night’s glowing design; If all the forest shares its gift, Why keep your heart from mine? Behold the rain that greets the earth, The roots that seek the stream; The quiet dusk that gives rebirth To every sleeper's dream. The summer breeze entwines the grass, The river falls into the sea: Why let this endless magic pass If you will not hold me?
