Waste management is often treated as a local service issue, but it is also deeply connected to climate action.
Organic waste in dumpsites and landfills produces methane. Open burning releases black carbon and toxic pollutants. Poor collection and disposal systems contribute to pollution, public health risks and avoidable emissions.
At the same time, better waste management can reduce emissions, improve public health, strengthen local resilience and open new routes to climate finance.
Climate integration is not just about adding climate language to a proposal. It means understanding where waste systems create emissions, where improvements can reduce harm, and how waste management can be positioned within wider climate, health and development priorities.
In this webinar, Dr Andriannah Mbandi explores how waste becomes visible in climate action, particularly through the links between open burning, black carbon, methane, public health and policy leadership.
The session will help participants understand climate integration as something practical and actionable, not just a reporting requirement.
