Stand with Shuwari: Help families rebuild after devastating violence

For years, communities across northeast Nigeria have lived with the devastating consequences of insurgency, armed violence and displacement. Since the early 2000s, thousands of families have lost loved ones, homes, livelihoods and their sense of security. While the Nigerian government, local organisations and international humanitarian agencies continue working to respond to the crisis, many families remain deeply vulnerable. And for Christian communities in particular, the situation remains deeply concerning. Nigeria’s Christians face extreme persecution. Nigeria is currently ranked 7th on Open Doors’ 2026 World Watch List*, which identifies the countries where Christians face the most extreme persecution. According to Open Doors’ research for the 2026 reporting period: 1.) 3,490 Christians were killed in Nigeria because of their faith 2,293 Christians were abducted 2.) Nigeria accounted for approximately 72% of all Christians killed for faith-related reasons worldwide 3.) Open Doors estimates that 107.3 million people in Nigeria are Christian, around 45.7% of the population These figures are minimum estimates, and Open Doors notes that many incidents go unreported. https://media.opendoorsuk.org/documen...
