Drawing a mermaid involves knowing how to draw human anatomy and a fish, or fish tail. References can be used for both the human and tail parts, and there are endless possibilities in designing a tail. It doesn't have to be fish-like, but can be any kind of other creatures appendage as long as it serves to propel the mermaid through the water.
