🕯 There is a kind of tiredness that does not come from work. It comes from carrying something. Something you do not talk about. Something with no name and no end date, that nobody around you can see, because a long time ago you learned how to keep your face steady while something inside you aches.
🌫 Maybe it is a person who left. Maybe it is a year you cannot get back. Maybe it is something that was done to you when you were too young to defend yourself. Maybe it is not one big thing at all — maybe it is a low, constant ache you stopped trying to explain a long time ago, because the last time you tried, the person listening changed the subject.
🌊 And the hard part is not that it hurt. Everybody gets hurt. The hard part is that it is still hurting, and you were sure you would be past it by now, and every time it comes back a voice inside you says something cruel: what is wrong with me, other people go through worse and they are fine, am I going to feel this for the rest of my life.
🍃 Nothing is wrong with you. You were never given the instructions. Nobody sat you down and explained what pain is, what suffering is, how they are different, and which of the two you have been carrying all this time. Because you have been carrying two things — and only one of them was ever real.
🏮 This is a slow, contemplative journey into what Lao Tzu, Zhuang Zi and the Tao Te Ching actually say about pain. Seven Taoist truths. Not seven ways to think positively, and not seven reasons why what happened to you was secretly good — because that would be an insult. Seven things that change what the pain is able to do to you, and each one comes with something small you can do tonight, alone, without telling anybody.
🌙 You'll find out why the sentence you passed on your own life was passed on the worst night you ever had. Why the river never argues with the boulder and still wins. Why almost nothing that wounded you was ever aimed at you — the old Taoist parable of the empty boat. Why the year you call wasted may be the exact thing that protected you, and what the tree nobody cut down has to say about it. Why humiliation outlasts injury. The line from Zhuang Zi's grief that everyone leaves out. And why, in the Tao, what stays soft is what survives.
🌾 You do not have to be strong today. You do not have to forgive anybody on a schedule. You do not have to be over it by any particular month.
