Some pain we learn to live with. Other pain we learn to run from, because no one ever taught us another way. In this episode, I share the years I spent running: through relationships that repeated the same pattern, through nights I reached for alcohol just to stop feeling, and through a life that looked successful on paper but felt empty from the inside. I talk honestly about the loops I couldn't break, the helplessness of having no map to follow, and the loneliness of being surrounded by people yet never truly understood. Then I talk about the slow, non-linear road back. It started with one late night in an office and a question I couldn't answer. It led to learning about intergenerational trauma, to five years of therapy, and to the first time anyone asked me, "How are you feeling right now?" I also talk about the person who chose to stay, about an ordinary life I never dared to dream of, and about a quiet afternoon with my mother that changed something small but real between us. I don't have a neat ending. I have an honest one, and a question I'd like to leave with you: does a person need a family to grow up whole? In this episode: Repeating painful patterns in love and friendship Why alcohol became "the last door left open" The loneliness of looking successful and feeling empty Discovering intergenerational trauma What my first therapy session felt like Being loved without having to "prove" anything A small step toward my mother, and what reconciliation can look like If you're carrying something similar, I'd love to hear how you're finding your way through it.
