Alexander conquered an empire. After his death, his mother Olympias fought to keep its Macedonian throne within his family.
Invited back to Macedonia by Polyperchon, Olympias faced Adea Eurydice and saw the rival army refuse to fight
her. Ancient accounts say she then ordered the deaths of King Philip III and Adea Eurydice.
Cassander answered by besieging her at Pydna.
This illustrated documentary follows Olympias from Epirus and Philip II’s court to Alexander’s death, the struggle
over young Alexander IV, and her final stand.
Tales of a divine serpent father and claims that she arranged Philip
II’s murder are ancient stories and allegations, not established facts. The paintings are interpretive reconstructions.
