About five people a week sit down in my chair and tell me they want whiter teeth. In this video I walk through five of them, back to back in one afternoon, all saying the exact same sentence, with five completely different problems underneath it. Only one of the five is solved by a whitening product. Before you buy anything, this is the question worth answering. What we cover: • The three words that get used interchangeably and should not be: cleaning, whitening, bleaching • Where tooth color actually comes from, and why enamel is not the part you are looking at • Why teeth darken with age, and the three things causing it at once • Category one, on the tooth: extrinsic stain, and the patient whose entire treatment plan was a cleaning • Category two, in the tooth: intrinsic stain, and what whitening was actually built for • Category three, not tooth at all: why a crown will never change, at any concentration • Why there is no bleach in any whitening product, and what carbamide peroxide really means • The traffic light: which discolorations respond predictably, which need managed expectations, and which need something else handled first • One tooth darker than the rest: why that is a diagnostic question and not a cosmetic one • Whiten first, stabilize, restore: the sequencing that saves people from remaking a crown twice • Is my child too young? What actually matters, and the conversation I have with the parent rather than the child • Whitening during pregnancy and breastfeeding, answered honestly CHAPTERS 0:00 Five people, one sentence 1:35 The whitening series, part one 2:18 Cleaning, bleaching, restoring 4:02 Where a tooth gets its color 5:58 Three categories, starting with on the tooth 6:45 The pipe smoker, and whitening toothpaste 8:32 In the tooth 10:04 Not tooth at all 11:26 There's no bleach in the bottle 13:32 Will it work on you?
