Northeast U.S. - Episode 6 (Finger Lakes Region, New York)

As we begin our sixth and final episode of our northeast trip, Sue and I are saddened to inform our channel followers, subscribers and others that this is the last travel video that will include Cassie. Sue and I lost our companion suddenly to cancer a little over a month after this trip ended. She was only 9 years old. We feel fortunate that Cassie was able to be with us, was healthy, and enjoyed every hike on this trip. Looking back, her last trip could not have been any better since Acadia National Park is one of the few dog-friendly National Parks in the United States. She was with us for every hike. She loved hiking with us (and us with her) as you have seen time and time again in our videos. She has been the center of attention in all our videos as she traveled with us nearly 40,000 miles, and visited 29 different states, many National Parks, National Monuments, and State Parks. These videos capture precious memories that will be with Sue and I forever. We will always miss Cassie dearly. All six of our Northeast videos are dedicated to her, our faithful companion and beloved family member. This is a celebration of Cassie’s life and the happiness and love that she brought into our lives. In late August 2024, Sue, Cassie and I began a month-long trip leaving Ohio and traveling to the northeast with many stops including: The Adirondacks where we visited Lake Placid, New York Lake Champlain in Vermont The White Mountains National Forest in New Hampshire Acadia National Park in Maine, which was the pinnacle of our trip The Green Mountains National Forest in Vermont And, finally, a stop in the Finger Lakes region in New York We are chronicling our trip to the northeast in a series of videos. This video (Episode 6) highlights our trip to the Finger Lakes Region in New York. In this episode we will cover Taughannock State Park, a stop at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, New York, Seneca Falls, and the Thirsty Owl Wine Company. Taughannock Falls State Park sits along the shores of Cayuga Lake, the longest of the Finger Lakes. From the campground, it’s just a short walk to both the lake and the gorge trailhead. The gorge trail leads to the park’s crown jewel—Taughannock Falls—a breathtaking waterfall that plunges 215 feet, making it the tallest free-falling waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains, even taller than Niagara Falls.
