Plastic surgery was born not in the Hollywood Hills among the rich and famous, but from the battlefields and the trenches of World War 1. Never before this time had such firepower been seen in battle, and with this came an increase in the number and severity of facial injuries from the front line. Join Dr Andrew Bamji as he explores the origins of facial reconstructive surgery through the work of WW1 surgeon Harold Gillies, and the archives of The Queen's Hospital, Sidcup, where Gillies performed plastic surgery of the face between 1917 and 1925.
