Can Christians Have Demons? I Think We’ve Gotten This Wrong

Can a Christian have a demon? Can someone have the Holy Spirit living inside of them while also having a demonic spirit that needs to be cast out? Deliverance ministry has exploded across charismatic Christianity, and many believers are being taught that salvation does not necessarily mean every demon is gone. Sin, trauma, bitterness, occult involvement, and “open doors” are often presented as ways demons can gain access to Christians. I’m charismatic. I believe demons are real. I believe in spiritual warfare, demonic oppression, and the supernatural. But I’m not convinced the New Testament teaches that born-again Christians have demons living inside of them that need to be cast out. In this video, I look at the distinction between demonic attack and demonic indwelling, what Paul actually tells struggling Christians to do, what Ephesians means by giving the devil a “foothold,” and why I think modern deliverance theology sometimes goes further than the apostles did. The big question is simple: Can a Christian actually have a demon? This is only the beginning of the conversation.
