"Japji Sahib" is a prayer composed by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism. It is the opening composition of the Sikh holy scripture, the Guru Granth Sahib. "Jap" means to recite or to "chant", and "ji" is a term of respect. "Sahib" denotes master or lord. Therefore, "Japji Sahib" can be translated as "the hymn of the soul that meditates on the Creator". The Japji Sahib comprises 38 stanzas and is written in the Punjabi language using the Gurmukhi script. It explores the fundamental teachings of Sikhism, including the nature of the divine, the importance of meditation, and the concept of unity with the divine. The prayer is often recited by Sikhs as a part of their daily routine, typically in the early morning. Japji Sahib serves as a profound spiritual guide, offering insights into the nature of existence and the path to spiritual enlightenment. It is considered one of the most important compositions in Sikhism and is revered for its depth of wisdom and universal message of peace and harmony.
