Learn how to play the Minuet in G Major (BWV Anh. 114) on piano, step by step, with the fingering for every note. This famous "Bach minuet" from the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach is one of the best first classical pieces for beginners: you'll learn it hands separately, slowly, and then hands together, until you play the complete minuet at full speed.
🎹 What you'll learn in this piano tutorial:
✅ 5 short lessons: right hand alone, left hand alone, then hands together at 60 BPM
✅ Realistic hands playing every note with the correct finger (the pressed key glows through the hand)
✅ Falling notes with the note name and finger number, plus the full score with fingering
✅ The ornaments, slowly and at full speed: the mordent (measures 5 and 13), the appoggiatura (measure 8) and the Baroque trill that starts on the upper note (measure 30)
✅ Baroque style: detached quarter notes, legato eighth notes, no pedal
✅ Each part at 80 BPM, and the complete minuet at 112 BPM with both repeats

🎼 About the Minuet in G Major
For centuries this minuet was attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach, because it appears in the 1725 Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach. Today we know it was composed by Christian Petzold (1677–1733), an organist in Dresden. Public domain.
Score: Bach-Gesellschaft edition, typeset for the Mutopia Project by Allen Garvin (public domain). Some editions add optional mordents on the C in measures 3 and 11; they are left out in this tutorial.
Fingering, ornament realization and on-screen score: JoPiaThan (adapt the fingering to your hand if you need to).
