Greetings everyone!
So this past spring break I finally got around to practicing a bit and trying out another drum cover. This is personally one of my favorite Hillsong songs, not only musically but also the heart of the lyrics as well. I know my timing is a little off sometimes..still working on it!
My hope in posting drum covers is to help aspiring drummers by offering what I have and giving some ideas of what other drummers do in striving for excellence and offering our best to worship God =). When I started off I definitely got a lot of help from just watching how other people on YouTube play. Generally I try to really get down what the original drummer does as far as the beat goes because I think they really worked with the composers musically to formulate a rhythm that really drives the song. From there I might add in my own transitions and fills. In this case I chose to ride on open hi hats instead of a crash at the end because I think the crash is a little overbearing.
I realize that I look really stoic but I assure that I'm having a blast! ;) I'm from a pretty conservative church musically so I'm used to really trying to control the loudness and keep from looking like a "crazy drummer". Things I'm really trying to work on include timing and fluidity of my arms
If you're still intrigued to keep reading, I'll share some technical information as well. I buy almost everything second hand, by no means do I have money to throw around.
I'm using an Audix 4-piece drum mic set with a Shure SM57 for the snare and a Nady PVM 480 condenser as an overhead. It's my first time working with drum mics so any tips are certainly appreciated!
