performed on 4/25/2025 at the new at noon concert at tufts university.
biomimicry is the emulation of the models, systems, and elements of nature for the purpose of solving complex human problems. it involves studying and imitating nature's methods and systems to develop innovative and sustainable solutions in various fields like design, engineering, and technology. in this piece, we follow a more literal sense of the word, where technology simply mimics and expands upon natural elements. this mimicking process happens twofold. first, the violin acts as the human, technological agent mimicking natural sounds in an attempt to build a natural soundscape. second, the fixed media acts as a technological agent capturing the sounds from the natural violin and expanding upon them in a way that builds off the system the instrument created.
