In June 1962, three inmates attempted one of the most famous prison escapes in history. Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin broke out of their cells at Alcatraz, climbed through a hidden service corridor, reached the roof, and disappeared into the cold waters of San Francisco Bay on a homemade raft. The FBI believed they most likely drowned. But their bodies were never recovered. Over the decades, strange sightings, alleged photographs, family claims and new evidence have kept one question alive: Did the Alcatraz escapees actually survive? In this episode of Crime Unknown, we reconstruct the escape plan, the fake heads left in their beds, the enlarged ventilation holes, the homemade raft, the journey across the bay, the massive manhunt that followed, and the evidence that still fuels the mystery today. Inside the cases you thought you knew.
