Its name translates as "Life-Giving Pillar." • The current structure was built in the 11th century (1010–1029) on the site of earlier churches dating back to the 4th–5th centuries. • According to tradition, the Robe of the Lord and the "life-giving pillar" are preserved here. Jvari Monastery • A 6th–7th-century monastery and church, standing atop a mountain at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers. It is a classic example of early Georgian architecture (a tetraconch) and was immortalized by Mikhail Lermontov in his poem "Mtsyri." • Construction took place approximately between 586/587 and 604 (the late 6th to early 7th century). • The interior of the church is austere, lacking paintings or frescoes, while the summit offers a panoramic view of Mtskheta.
