How To Grow Mombasa Grass for Goats and Free range Chickens

Mombasa also known as Panicum maximum and sometimes guinea grass is tall grass and a native of tropical Africa similar to hybrid Napier grass in habit, but far leafier and is very suitable for cut-and-carry. It was introduced into Brazil from Tanzania in 1993, from near Korogwe, Tanzania. Mombasa has a deep root system which enables it to withstand long dry periods. The grass grows on a wide variety of soils, preferring higher fertility with good drainage as it will not tolerate water logged conditions. It is well eaten by all classes of grazing livestock, with particularly high intakes of young leafy growth. It is also used for feeding fish in Vietnam.
