Fiscal management, infrastructure planning and quality of place intersect in Noblesville along the new Pleasant Street Corridor. Noblesville leaders wanted to alleviate traffic buildups in and around the city’s historic downtown. The result is Pleasant Street — a major road connecting State Road 32 in the west to State Road 37 in the east. Along the reinvented 2.5-mile stretch there are pedestrian tunnels, walking trails, gorgeous landscaping and public art, which all reflect Noblesville’s identity. Project planners partnered with local artists to make the roadway a quality of place showcase with murals depicting Noblesville’s history. The route also preserves a historic neighborhood where the Delaware Tribe of Indians had a settlement and some of Noblesville’s first Black residents lived. Pleasant Street’s improved infrastructure enhances Noblesville’s outdoor spaces and history, while alleviating traffic in other areas of the city.
