With due respect to the pair of two-hour-plus videos from Instruo themselves, there are few ‘how to do it’ videos out there for the Lubadh. In the hope that it may prove useful (and because it’s good for the soul to give something back to YT for a change), here is a basic, moderately poorly edited, guide to getting sound into the thing…
This is the best recording monitoring option of the three possible imho- the sound to be recorded can’t be heard until recording is armed, nor does it impinge when recording is finished (the Buchla gear was playing away all the time during these shoots, and remained plugged into the left reel’s input, but does not interfere with playback). Timing is important, but then it’s a looper: timing is always important. One of the reasons this is basic is that there’s apparently obvious stuff I haven’t fathomed yet (I can’t get the normalled signal path to work for example), but this represents- even secondhand- too much of an investment not to investigate thoroughly, so there will be other videos. One aspect I nearly tacked on to the end of this concerned the v/oct input (labelled ‘speed’ just below the reels)- just for laughs I ran the third lane of the Buchla sequencer into it and got very interesting, and very controllable, tape-speed fluctuations from the barely audible to the module’s maximum of 4x original. And there are other firmware options to play with, each with text-editable parameters to adjust. There will be more videos.
Like and subscribe, good people, spread the word and did you know that leopards hunt in trees? In the pitch dark? Wild…
Thanks for watching!
