With amlodipine, lisinopril and losartan, the biggest dangers often come from mix-ups with other medicines, not the pills themselves. There's an FDA dose limit on a common cholesterol pill with amlodipine. A common antibiotic was linked to sudden death in older adults on lisinopril or losartan. There's a combination guidelines advise against. And a blood test result worries people for no reason. Plus two things about losartan most people never hear.
In this video, we go through the published research and the official guidelines, in plain language, so you can have a better conversation with your doctor.
In this video you'll learn:
• Mix-up 1: amlodipine and simvastatin (the FDA's 20 mg limit, and warning signs of muscle damage)
• Mix-up 2: co-trimoxazole (Bactrim/Septra) with lisinopril or losartan, and the 2014 BMJ study of adults 66+
• Mix-up 3: never an ACE inhibitor plus an ARB (the ONTARGET trial), and combination pills that hide one
• Mix-up 4: the kidney blood test, why a small creatinine rise is often expected, and the urine albumin test
• Mix-up 5: losartan and gout, and what the 2018-2019 recalls really meant
• Two extras: a sick-day plan and what to do about missed doses
• One pharmacy, one list, one yearly review
