Welcome to this lecture on Three Dimensional Graphics — 3D Transformation Translation Rotation Scaling Matrix Method, Wireframe Model Pros Cons Vertex Edge Table, Hidden Line Elimination Visible Surface, Hidden Surface Removal Projector Method, Z Buffer Depth Buffer Algorithm Steps Initialization Scan Conversion Visibility, Advantages Hardware Implementation — fully aligned with the PSBTE&IT diploma curriculum.
In this lecture you will learn:
• 3D graphics introduction — extension of 2D by including Z coordinate for exact position and shape
• Translation in 3D — x' = x+tx, y' = y+ty, z' = z+tz, matrix method with tx ty tz
• Scaling in 3D — x' = x*sx, y' = y*sy, z' = z*sz with respect to origin, matrix method
• Rotation in 3D — around X Y Z coordinate axes formulas with cos theta sin theta
• Wireframe model — geometric modeling by characteristic lines and points, outer structure only
• Pros and cons — simple input useful for system development, no inside outside boundary info
• Vertex and edge tables — 3D coordinates per vertex, start end vertex per edge for object generation
• Hidden line concept — internal lines not visible, draw only visible surfaces, cube three sides visible
• Hidden surface removal — projector direction, overlapping triangle circle rectangle, identify hidden surfaces
• Z buffer algorithm — depth buffer for video editing 2D in 3D space, shadow rendering, post-production texturing
• Z buffer steps — initialize Z buffer frame buffer, scan conversion compare depth, update if z greater than stored
• Advantages — implementable in hardware, easy to process, processes one object at a time
Curriculum Alignment: This lecture is fully aligned with the PSBTE&IT (Punjab State Board of Technical Education & Industrial Training) Computer Graphics curriculum for the Computer Engineering diploma program. Three Dimensional Transformation Wireframe Hidden Surface Z Buffer forms a core module in the syllabus.
Target Audience: Diploma students and faculty of government polytechnic colleges in Punjab (PSBTE&IT curriculum), Computer Engineering diploma students preparing for board exams and practicals, and anyone studying fundamentals of 3D graphics and hidden surface elimination.
