Cello & Piano Café — Chapter IX "The Clock Room"
In a dark, wood-panelled room, a tall grandfather clock stands against the
far wall. One band of afternoon sunlight comes in through the window, slides
down the wall and across the floor — and inside that light, a cello and a
grand piano are waiting.
This chapter follows a whole day inside a single room. The music begins as
the pendulum wakes, brightens as the light crosses the floor, dances once in
the afternoon, rises to its highest point as the hour strikes, falls silent
for a moment — a cello alone — and then walks slowly towards midnight.
Throughout, the cello sings while the piano answers in fine, intricate lines.
That conversation is what this whole series is built on.
Tick, tock — the day goes by,
the light slides down the wall.
A cello and a piano play
till midnight, that is all.
10 original pieces for cello and piano, written in the baroque style. 2 hours.
Music for the whole day — for working, reading, cooking, or simply letting the
hours pass. Music only — no clock or ticking sound effects.

Welcome to Machikomama's baroque world.
As a child I loved two things: Bach's unaccompanied cello suites, and Chopin's
piano — different centuries, but the same pull. Every night I listened until
sleep took me, never knowing why this music held me so completely. Years later,
I began composing, trying to put that "why" into words. Slowly, the shape of
what I love became clear: sequences (Sequenz) that climb step by step and
refuse to stand still; two voices in imitative counterpoint, one chasing the
other like a quiet conversation; a single unaccompanied cello speaking in
double stops; and a rondo-like refrain — one singing melody that returns again
and again, a little different each time. These are the devices that moved me
as a child — and they are exactly what I compose with now. If they move you
too, you are in the right place.
Once a week, I open this storybook and build a new world of music inside it.
In its pages lives a woman — quiet, elegant, everything I have always admired.
Each chapter, she opens the book to a new room, a new scene, a new album — and
steps into the music.
This week, the page opens onto the clock room.
