What happens when the pressure to be good enough, do enough, and get everything right becomes overwhelming? In this message from *The Lutheran Reformation* series at CrossLife Church, Pastor Daron explores **faith alone**—the biblical truth that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not by our works or ability to keep God's law perfectly. The message follows the story of **Martin Luther**, who struggled deeply with guilt and shame despite faithfully practicing the religious disciplines of his monastery. While studying the book of Romans, Luther discovered the liberating truth that changed his life: God's righteousness is **given through faith in Jesus Christ**. In this sermon, you'll discover: *The distinction between Law and Gospel.* The Law says, “Do!” It reveals God's commands, exposes our sin, and shows us our inability to save ourselves. The Gospel says, “Done!” Jesus has already accomplished our salvation. *The purpose of God's Law.* The Law is good. It serves as a mirror that reveals our sin, a curb that restrains sinful behavior, and a guide that shows us God's will. But the Law cannot save us. *Righteousness is given, not achieved.* Romans 3 teaches that no one is declared righteous by works of the Law. God's righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. *Martin Luther's spiritual struggle.* Luther tried to find peace through religious discipline, prayer, fasting, confession, and even self-punishment. The freedom he needed came when he discovered the Gospel of Jesus Christ. *Jesus has already done what we cannot do.* Christ perfectly fulfilled God's Law and then suffered and died for sinners. Our salvation, forgiveness, and righteousness come from Him. *Faith alone means trusting Jesus instead of our God replacements.* Approval, money, achievement, appearance, control, self-reliance, and other things can become idols when we trust them to provide what only Jesus can provide. *Faith is active.* We are not saved by works, but genuine faith lives and works as it applies God's commands and promises to everyday life. *“The righteous will live by faith.”* Romans 1:17 calls Christians to continually apply God's promises by faith when facing anxiety, guilt, disappointment, fear, and difficult circumstances. *Faith brings freedom and a lighter heart.* When we surrender burdens that God has not given us to carry, we can trust Jesus to redeem what feels heavy and live with greater peace and confidence in His grace. Law and Gospel *The Law:* “Do!” God's Law reveals our sin and shows us our need for a Savior. *The Gospel:* “Done!” Jesus has already accomplished our salvation through His perfect life, death, and resurrection. The Gospel does not tell us to become good enough to earn God's love. It announces that in Jesus Christ, God's grace has already accomplished what we could never accomplish for ourselves.
