GreenWeb - A Blueprint for ReducingCarbon Footprints in Large-ScaleProjects - J.Joswig, K.Mittermair

GreenWeb - A Blueprint for Reducing Carbon Footprints in Large-Scale Projects by Jochen Joswig and Katharina Mittermair Embracing GreenWeb practices is a profound challenge currently tackled by the WienIT, which is the digital backbone of the Vienna city utilities company (Wiener Stadtwerke-Gruppe). In this presentation we will show how companies like WienIT can improve the sustainability impact of their digital services. We will show the approach, the challenges and the lessons learned, so that you can take these ideas and implement them in your own Web Projects. About the speaker: Jochen Joswig Green Software Champion, Lead Software Engineer, Author and Keynote Speaker Jochen Joswig is a Lead Software Engineer at MaibornWolff and a recognized Green Software Champion of the Green Software Foundation and Project Lead for the CNCF Environmental Sustainability TAG. Beyond research and standards, he actively foster the local developer community as a co-organizer of the Green Software MeetUps in Hamburg and Munich. Katharina Mittermair Test Manager at WienIT As a Test Manager at WienIT, she works on integrating CO₂ measurements into automated end-to-end tests. This approach makes it possible to assess real user journeys—including login processes—and compare their environmental impact across software releases, helping teams understand how changes influence their application's carbon footprint. Since 2018, Katharina has been working in software testing, with a focus on quality assurance, test management, and sustainable testing practices. Beyond her day-to-day role, she is actively involved in knowledge sharing and professional development, contributing to the establishment of a Test IT Academy within her organization. She has also supported career changers as a speaker and mentor through Women in ICT.
