In this long video, we want to share the story of one whole year in the life of our large family in a Carpathian mountain village. Season after season, you will see how our everyday life changes and how each part of the year brings new work, traditions, and family moments. Our story begins in the second half of summer, around August, when the first major harvest work is underway. One of the most important jobs is digging potatoes. Grandfather, our son, and grandson work together in the field, gathering the potatoes our family planted and cared for during the previous months. Cucumbers, tomatoes, corn, and other vegetables are also ripening, and little by little we begin collecting everything the land has given us. As summer turns into autumn, there is even more work. We harvest vegetables from the fields and garden, bring everything home, sort it, and prepare it for storage. Grandfather, our son, and grandson work outside, while grandmother prepares food for winter, preserving cucumbers, tomatoes, and other vegetables. Autumn in the Carpathians is also mushroom season. We often go into the forest with baskets and return home with mushrooms. We clean, cook, dry, or preserve them for winter. At the same time, we prepare firewood and get the household ready for colder weather. Then our story takes us into spring. After the long winter, the land comes back to life and a new farming season begins. We take out potatoes stored through winter in a traditional underground storage pit, sort them, and prepare them for planting. Grandfather, our son, and grandson prepare the soil, plant potatoes and other crops, clean the garden after winter, and begin the important spring work. What we plant and how we care for the land will determine what we can harvest later in the year. Gradually, summer arrives again. Everything planted in spring begins to grow quickly. We spend our days working in the gardens and fields, weeding, hilling potatoes, caring for vegetables, and watching the future harvest grow. On our farm we have cows, pigs, chickens, geese, turkeys, dogs, and cats. They are all part of our everyday life. We feed them, take livestock out to pasture, and care for them every day. Grandmother regularly milks the cow and takes care of the animals and household. One of the biggest summer jobs is making hay. We cut grass in the meadows, dry it in the sun, gather it, and store it. Everyone helps because we need enough hay for our animals during winter. And gradually, autumn returns. After many months of work, it is time for the main harvest. Our family goes back into the fields and gardens to collect corn, potatoes, vegetables, and everything else that has grown during the warm season. At the same time, we prepare for winter. We collect firewood, finish the last field jobs, clean the gardens, and organize our food supplies. We also return to the forest to gather mushrooms, while grandmother continues filling the shelves with homemade preserves. The final part of our story takes place in late autumn, when most field work is finished. Our family begins one of the last important preparations for winter — preparing meat and making traditional homemade sausage. Together, we prepare the meat, make homemade sausage, and create food supplies for the cold season. These traditions have been part of rural life for generations and remain important to our family today. You will see us digging potatoes, planting in spring, caring for the fields in summer, making hay, caring for animals, milking the cow, harvesting vegetables and corn, gathering mushrooms, preparing firewood, preserving food, and getting ready for winter. This is our everyday life in a Carpathian mountain village — surrounded by mountains, forests, fields, animals, hard work, family, and traditions passed down through generations. *For you, this journey will last 3 hours and 45 minutes. For us, it was an entire year of life.* This video is a special compilation made from several of our previously published videos, bringing together different seasons, daily work, family moments, and village traditions into one long story.
