I arrived at Mama’s memory care facility to find her walking and meddling — her usual routine. But as dinner rolled around, her energy shifted. She had a hard time focusing, and I ended up feeding her most of the meal to make sure she got the nourishment she needed.
And then she said it — “I don’t even know who I am.”
Those words cut deep. As a caregiver, moments like these are heavy. But I reminded myself: as long as I know who she is, we’re okay. That’s the power of love through the fog of dementia.
💛 In this day-in-the-life caregiving video, I share the tough reality of memory loss, the strength it takes to stay grounded, and the ways we show up — even when our loved ones no longer recognize themselves.
