They were told to bow to an image of gold, threescore cubits tall, that is sixty cubits, roughly ninety feet. They said no. So the king heated the furnace seven times hotter and threw them in bound, in their own clothes, with their hands still tied. Then he stood up in shock and said: "Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God." (Daniel 3:24-25) This is the song of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. And the line that most people miss is the one they spoke before the fire was ever lit: "Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us... BUT IF NOT, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods." (Daniel 3:17-18) They did not obey because they were guaranteed rescue. They obeyed because He is God either way.
