Dr Yahia Baiza looks at how the Ismailis of Afghanistan, and the Hazara Ismailis in particular, have balanced continuity and change. Their practices range from Nawruz and the Eids to distinctly Ismaili occasions, and local traditions such as lighting the paltah chiragh have gradually given way to newer customs.
