Low-density plastics and rubbers (gaskets, O-rings, seals, belt fragments) have long been among the hardest foreign materials for food X-ray to see. This webinar explains how photon-counting X-ray changes that, and where the limits still are.
FlexXray's Chief Product Officer Kye Luker and Director of Imaging & Testing Kartiga Selvaganesan explain how photon-counting detectors sort X-ray photons into energy bins. They show why that gives materials like Viton, Buna-N, Delrin, and EPDM a distinct signature, and why slower offline inspection makes low-density detection practical where in-line production speeds can't.
You'll see test images from common product formats: chicken nuggets, a ground beef chub, a vacuum-packed microwavable meal, and a 5 lb bagged sauce. The session closes with next steps for FSQA teams:
Inventory the plastics and rubbers in your facility, and what they're made of.
Revisit your risk assessment and HACCP plan.
Rethink how plastic-related holds are handled.
Have a material you were told couldn't be detected? We'd like to look at it: https://flexxray.com/lp/x-ray-for-low...
