Can You Travel Abroad While Under Police Investigation? | Solicitor Explains

Can you travel abroad while you are under police investigation but have not been charged? In this video, Manjinder Kang, Director and Solicitor at Kang & Co Solicitors, explains whether an ongoing criminal investigation can affect your ability to travel abroad and why the answer depends on your legal status and any conditions that apply to you. Being under investigation does not automatically mean that you are prohibited from leaving the UK. However, the position can be very different if you have been released on pre-charge bail. Police bail can be made subject to conditions, and those conditions may include restrictions on foreign travel or a requirement to surrender your passport. If you have instead been Released Under Investigation (RUI), you are not on pre-charge bail and RUI itself does not carry bail conditions. The police investigation does, however, remain ongoing. Before booking or taking an overseas trip while under investigation, it is important to establish exactly what your current legal status is, check the terms of any bail conditions and obtain legal advice if there is any uncertainty.
