The Hidden cost of Success | Bhagavad Gita as it is | EP#19 | BG 1.31 #iskcon #prabhupada #krishna Can victory, wealth and achievement still leave us empty? In this lecture on Bhagavad Gita 1.31, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada explains Arjuna’s refusal to desire victory, kingdom or happiness if achieving them requires the loss of his own relatives. Srila Prabhupada reveals the important difference between preya and śreya. Preya means something that feels pleasant immediately, while śreya means what is truly beneficial in the long term. Most people chase temporary comfort, status, wealth and family happiness without considering whether these things lead to the ultimate good. Arjuna believes that life will lose its meaning without society, friendship and love. However, the deeper lesson of Bhagavad Gita is that neither victory nor renunciation is spiritually valuable unless Krishna is at the centre. A family life centred on material enjoyment becomes a source of attachment and anxiety. The same family life becomes gṛhastha-āśrama when the home, relationships, work and resources are used in Krishna’s service. This lecture explains: The difference between "śreya" and ''preya'' Why immediate pleasure may harm our future? Why can worldly success still feel meaningless? How family attachment influences our decisions? The difference between family life and gṛhastha-āśrama. Why temporary renunciation is not real detachment? Why is satisfying Krishna the highest good? How Krishna consciousness gives the proper purpose to success, family and responsibility? Why Arjuna needed Bhagavad Gita to understand his real duty? Verse Covered: 📖 Bhagavad Gita 1.31 🙏 All glories to His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada.
