Once facing decline due to low demand, this beautiful craft survived because of a few dedicated artisan families who refused to give up their heritage. One such family is that of Maruti Badiger, continuing a six-generation legacy of cradle-making. Their craftsmanship gained renewed attention when the family of Kannada legend Dr. Rajkumar ordered a cradle, bringing the art back into the spotlight. Since then, orders have increased across India and abroad. These cradles are made from durable teak wood (31x21 inches) and painted with natural, child-safe colours prepared from lac, wax, tamarind seed paste, and clay. The artwork features scenes from Krishna Leela, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Shiva-Parvathi, and can also include images of Mahaveera, Christ, Mecca, or custom designs as per customer preference. Available in both hanging and stand models (with smooth bearing support for gentle movement), each cradle is handcrafted over 1.5 to 3 months and blessed with pooja before delivery.
