This is the perfect DIY gift idea or just nice to make for yourself! You can use air-dry clay for this project as it does not need to be food safe. If you do use air-dry clay, you can use normal paint to decorate or give color to your finished pieces and apply a layer of glossy spray or mod podge to give a shiny finish.
