*ABORTION, FAITH & IDAHO PROPOSITION 1 | An LDS Mother Speaks Honestly*
**Reproductive Freedom & Privacy Act**,
which is on the November 3, 2026 ballot and concerns abortion, reproductive-health decisions, privacy, and healthcare-provider protections.
📣Welcome everyone! I will be a Special Guest Speaker at the Book of Mormon Evidence Firm Conference October 15-17th in Layton Utah. I would love to meet you!
What does it mean to follow Jesus Christ when we are confronted with difficult questions about *abortion, the unborn, motherhood, faith, and Idaho law?*
My name is Melissa. I live in Idaho, I am a mother of seven, and I am a member of **The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints**.
Recently, a letter from the Church's area presidency concerning **Idaho Proposition 1—the Reproductive Freedom & Privacy Act**—was read during sacrament meeting for the second time. That experience caused me to reflect deeply on what I believe, why I believe it, and how followers of Christ should respond when difficult political and moral issues confront us.
Rather than approaching this subject from anger or fear, I want to begin with the words of Jesus Christ:
*“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”*
—Matthew 22:37
And then:
*“Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”*
—Matthew 22:39
In this video, I share my personal perspective as an LDS mother and discuss *abortion, the value of unborn life, fear, faith in Jesus Christ, and how Christians can respond with compassion to women facing difficult pregnancies.*
I also share a personal experience from several years ago that caused me to seriously reflect on the value of every human life—and one sentence that has stayed with me ever since:
*“You were never just a mass of cells.”*
I believe that conversations about abortion should not simply be about politics. They should also involve *love, compassion, and how we care for people who may feel frightened or alone.*
In this video, I discuss:
• Idaho Proposition 1 and why it has become an important issue for Idaho voters
• My experience hearing the Church's message about Proposition 1
• What Jesus taught about loving God and loving our neighbors
• Matthew 22 and the Great Commandments
• What the Bible teaches about the value of human life
• Fear and difficult decisions surrounding pregnancy
• My personal experience involving emergency contraception
• Why I believe women facing difficult pregnancies need compassion and support
• My perspective as a mother of seven and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
• Why I believe Christians should approach this subject with both *truth and love*
*Proposition 1 is officially titled the Reproductive Freedom & Privacy Act.* Under the proposed law, it would establish a statutory right to reproductive freedom and privacy, including abortion before fetal viability and abortion after viability in cases of medical emergency, along with protections for certain healthcare providers. The measure is scheduled for the November 3, 2026 Idaho general election and, if enacted, would take effect January 1, 2027. ([VoteIdaho.Gov][1])
In my **next video**, I plan to read through the letter from the Church and then begin examining the actual text of **Idaho Proposition 1**, so that we can educate ourselves about what the proposed law actually says.
*Thank you for watching, and please share your own experiences and perspectives in the comments.*
