Japanese Walkmans & Boomboxes: Inside a Tokyo Cassette Shop

DESIGN UNDERGROUND is a Shibuya shop built around radicassettes, the Japanese boomboxes from the 70s and 80s, restored and sold alongside the tapes to play on them. I went to ask what it takes to keep forty-year-old decks running, and what people are buying them for in 2026. I run a cassette label called Throne Age out of the US and Thailand.
