ജലഛത്രപതി ഉമയാറ്റുകര പള്ളിയോടം പുതുക്കി നിർമ്മിക്കുന്നു | Renovation of Umayattukara Palliyodam

അമരത്ത് ഹനുമാൻ സ്വാമിയുമായി പമ്പയുടെ ഓളപ്പരപ്പിൽ ചാട്ടുളിപോലെ ചീറിപ്പായുന്ന ജലഛത്രപതി എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഉമയാറ്റുകര പള്ളിയോടത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റ പണികൾ ആരംഭിച്ചു. അമരത്തിനും കാറ്റുമറയ്ക്കും ഇടഭാഗത്തുള്ള ഏരാവ്, മാതാവ് പലകകൾ മാറ്റി പള്ളിയോടം ഒതുക്കി നിർമ്മിക്കുന്ന പണികളാണ് നടത്തുന്നത്. ചങ്ങംകരി വേണുവാചാരിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ 13ലക്ഷം രൂപ മുതൽ മുടക്കിയാണ് പുതിയ നിർമ്മാണ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ ആരംഭിച്ചത്. ഒന്നേകാൽ നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ പാരമ്പര്യമുള്ള ഉമയാറ്റുകര പള്ളിയോടം, പള്ളിയോടങ്ങളുടെ മുത്തച്ഛനെന്നാണ് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ജലമേളയിലും തിരുവോത്തോണി ഘോഷയാത്രയിലും മുടങ്ങാതെ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്ന ഉമയാറ്റുകര, തുഴച്ചിലിലും വഞ്ചിപ്പാട്ടിലും ആറന്മുളയുടെ ശൈലി കാത്തുസൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിൽ നിർണായക പങ്കാണ് വഹിക്കുന്നത്. 1879ൽ പ്രശസ്ത പള്ളിയോട ശിൽപി റാന്നി മുണ്ടപ്പുഴ നാരായണൻ ആചാരിയാണ് പഴയ ഉമയാറ്റുകര പള്ളിയോടം നിർമിച്ചത്. പഴയ പള്ളിയോടം മ്യൂസിയം ഒരുക്കുന്നതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി ആറന്മുള ഹെറിറ്റേജ് ട്രസ്റ്റ് ഏറ്റെടുത്തു. തുടർന്ന് 2018ൽ അയിരൂർ സതീഷ് ആചാരിയാണ് പുതിയ പളളിയോടം നിർമ്മിച്ച് നീറ്റിലിറക്കിയത്. പഴയപളളിയോട മുത്തച്ഛനോടുള്ള ആദര സൂചകമായി കരക്കാർ പുതിയ പള്ളിയോടത്തിന് നൽകിയ പേരാണ് ജലഛത്രപതി എന്നത്. 2184-ാം നമ്പർ എൻ.എസ്.എസ് കരയോഗത്തിന്റെ ഉടമസ്ഥതയിലുള്ള പള്ളിയോടത്തിന് 18 അടി അമരപ്പൊക്കവും, 47.25 കോൽ നീളവും 64 അംഗുലം ഉടമയുമുണ്ട്. മത്സര വള്ളംകളിയിൽ വേഗതയിൽ കുറവ് കണ്ടതോടെയാണ് നിലയാൾ ഉൾപ്പടെ 100 തുഴച്ചിൽക്കാർക്ക് കയറാൻ കഴിയുന്ന എ ബാച്ചിൽപ്പെട്ട പള്ളിയോടം പുതുക്കി നിർമ്മിക്കാൻ കരയോഗം തീരുമാനിച്ചത്. കരയോഗം പ്രസിഡന്റ് അജി.ആർ.നായർ, സെക്രട്ടറി പി.എം.ജയകുമാർ എന്നിവരുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലാണ് നിർമ്മാണ പ്രവർത്തനം നടത്തുന്നത്. പണികൾ പൂർത്തിയാക്കി ഏപ്രിൽ മാസം ആദ്യവാരം നീറ്റിലിറക്കാൻ കഴിയുമെന്ന പ്രതിക്ഷയിലാണ് കരക്കാർ. Renovation work has begun at Umayattukara Palliyodam, known as the "Water Umbrella Chief" (Jalachathrapathi), located on the banks of the Pampa River, near Hanuman Swami's temple at Amara. The repairs are being carried out in areas affected by wind and rain, with the boat's bow and stern being reinforced and renovated. These works are being overseen by the leadership of Changamkari Venuvachari, with an investment of 13 lakh rupees. Umayattukara Palliyodam, which has a tradition spanning over a century, is known as the "Grandfather of Palliyodams." This boat has been a continuous participant in events like the water festival and the Thiruvothoni procession. It also plays a crucial role in preserving the style of traditional performances such as Thuzhachil and Vanchippattu from Aranmula. The old Umayattukara Palliyodam was built in 1879 by the famous Palliyodam craftsman Ranni Mundappuzha Narayanan Achari. As part of setting up a museum for the old boat, the Aranmula Heritage Trust took over its preservation. In 2018, the new boat was constructed and launched by Ayyirur Satish Achari. In honor of the old boat and its legacy, the new boat has been named "Jalachathrapathi" by the local community. The Palliyodam, owned by the 2184th NSS Karayogam, has a height of 18 feet, a length of 47.25 feet, and a width of 64 inches. Due to a decrease in speed during competitive boat races, the Karayogam decided to rebuild the boat to accommodate 100 rowers, including the helmsman, with the intention of improving its performance. Under the leadership of Karayogam President Aji. R. Nayar and Secretary P. M. Jayakumar, the renovation work is being carried out.
