Luke 14:28 asks you to sit down and estimate the cost before you build. In context, Jesus is talking about following him, not about a budget. This video reads the whole passage through verse 33, names the two commentators we checked, and then borrows the habit Jesus points to. We say where the Bible stops and our own advice begins. Two actions for this week: Count the finish. For one commitment, write what you pay each month, what it costs each month to keep it running, and the money you have left after bills. Act while there is distance. Think of the one payment you are least sure you can make, write its due date, and call the day you find out with your numbers in front of you. This is biblical teaching, not personal financial advice. Scriptures referenced (NIV): Luke 14:25-33 - Jesus tells the crowds the cost of being a disciple, with the tower builder and the king going to war. Luke 14:28 - "Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won't you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?" Luke 14:29-30 - "This person began to build and wasn't able to finish." Luke 14:31-32 - "If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace." Luke 14:33 - "In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples." Proverbs 27:23-24 - "Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever." This video walks through the full passage in Luke 14, not just the famous line about counting the cost. I share two practical moves you can take this week. First, count the finish, not just the starting price. Second, if your numbers come up short, act while there is still distance. The king in the second story did not wait until the army arrived. He sent a delegation while the other king was still far off. At Wisdom of Wealth we read the whole chapter before pulling out a verse. I tell you exactly where the Bible stops and my own advice begins. If you know someone who has heard count the cost applied to buying a house but never read what comes next, send them this one.
