You meet someone new and within days it already feels strangely familiar. Not the music they like or the jokes they laugh at — the feeling underneath. The waiting. The uncertainty. The small distance you immediately start trying to close.
A few months later it ends almost exactly the way the last one did. Different face. Same story.
Most people explain that with bad luck, bad timing, or bad judgment, and promise themselves better standards next time. That explanation misses something. People rarely choose relationships purely on what makes them happy. They choose on what feels familiar — and the brain treats familiarity as safety, even when the familiar thing hurt.
This is why some healthy relationships feel strangely flat at the start. Not peaceful. Flat. The absence of confusion gets mistaken for the absence of connection.
It is also why insight alone changes so little. Recognition is not the same thing as interruption. You can understand your pattern completely and still repeat it, because the reward at the beginning is unchanged.
So the real moment to watch is not the ending. It is that instant feeling of certainty at the very start.
