By shifting from traditional sugarcane farming to banana cultivation, this farmer in Sangli, Maharashtra, achieved 55 tonnes of banana production from just 55 gunthas (around 1.25 acres) and exported nearly 96% of his produce. Pradeep Patil is an experienced sugarcane farmer who decided to try banana cultivation for the first time. His first crop generated around ₹10 lakh in revenue, with an average banana price of ₹18 per kg. What makes his story interesting is how he managed his cultivation cost through a combination of government subsidy and intercropping. He received around ₹1 lakh in subsidy, while another ₹1 lakh came from coriander grown as an intercrop. In this video, Pradeep explains his experience of growing banana alongside sugarcane, the varieties he selected, crop management, fertilizer and water management, and how technology helped him achieve quality production. He also shares why nearly 96% of his bananas were exported to markets including Dubai and Iran. From studying banana cultivation for a year before planting to carefully planning crop management and market opportunities, Pradeep believes that farming can be treated as a business with the right crop, technology and market strategy.
