What is SNHL & Congenital Cytomegalovirus?
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the most common cause of congenital infection (1) and one of the most frequent non-genetic causes of sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) (2–6). The hearing impairment may be fluctuating in time or progress up to require cochlear implants (7, 8).
Congenital CMV infection is a leading cause of sensorineural hearing loss and is responsible for an estimated 15%–25% of all clinically significant hearing loss among U.S. children.
