Langtang Before the Flood | My Journey to Langtang Base Camp Hello, dear friends, and welcome back to Trekking And Riding With Rupendra. In this vlog, I am taking you on a memorable journey to one of Nepal's most beautiful Himalayan destinations — Langtang Base Camp. This trek took place in 2021, when Nepal was gradually recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and trekking had begun to resume after a long and difficult period. For me, returning to the mountains was particularly meaningful. It was not simply another trek; it was a journey back to the Himalayas, nature and adventure. The Langtang region is renowned for its spectacular mountain scenery, dramatic valleys, glaciers, rugged landscapes and traditional mountain settlements. As we travel deeper into the valley, the landscape gradually changes, with towering snow-covered peaks surrounding the trail. At that time, I did not have a GoPro camera or the equipment and facilities that I have today. Nevertheless, I am delighted to share these memories with you, captured with my simple camera. Sometimes, it is not the equipment that matters most, but the memories and stories captured along the journey. Please note that this video was filmed before the devastating floods that affected the Bhote Koshi River region in August 2026. These images therefore give us a glimpse of Langtang as it looked at that time, before the recent disaster. Our government and the concerned authorities are currently working hard on relief, recovery and reconstruction. My sincere thoughts and prayers are with all those who lost their lives and everyone affected by this terrible disaster. Frequently Asked Questions – Langtang Base Camp Trek 1. Where is Langtang Base Camp? Langtang Base Camp is in the Langtang Valley of Nepal, within Langtang National Park, north of Kathmandu and relatively close to the Tibetan border. 2. Where does the trek start? The standard trek starts at Syabrubesi, which is reached by road from Kathmandu. The journey usually takes around 7–8 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. 3. How long does the trek take? A typical trek takes around 6–10 days, depending on the itinerary and side trips. My journey took six days: Day 1: Kathmandu to Syabrubesi – 7 hours by bus Day 2: Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel – 8 hours trekking Day 3: Lama Hotel to Base Camp – 9 hours trekking Days 4–5: Early-morning climb to the sunrise viewpoint and return towards Syabrubesi Day 6: Local bus from Syabrubesi back to Kathmandu 4. What is the highest point? Kyanjin Gompa is around 3,870 metres above sea level. Higher optional hikes include Kyanjin Ri and Tserko Ri. 5. Is the trek difficult? It is generally considered a moderate trek. A reasonable level of fitness is required, particularly because of the altitude and long walking days. 6. What is the best time to trek? The traditional trekking seasons are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), although conditions can vary. 7. Is accommodation available? Yes. Teahouses and lodges are available along the main route, providing basic facilities for trekkers. 8. Can I see snow and glaciers? Yes. The upper Langtang Valley offers spectacular views of snow-covered peaks, glaciers and alpine landscapes, as you will see throughout this vlog. 9. What makes Langtang special? Langtang offers a wonderful combination of Himalayan scenery, Tamang culture, forests, rivers, traditional villages, monasteries and high-altitude landscapes, all within relatively easy reach of Kathmandu. 10. When was this trek filmed? This journey was filmed in 2021, when Nepal was gradually recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
