On March 22, 2014, a hillside collapsed near Oso, Washington. The debris crossed a river, tore through the Steelhead Haven neighborhood, and buried nearly a mile of highway. Inside one of the homes, Amanda Skorjanc held her five-month-old son as the building broke apart around them. The hillside had collapsed before. Eight years earlier, the homes had survived. What made this time so different? This documentary follows the 2014 Oso landslide through the people caught in its path—and the rescuers struggling to reach them. With survivors trapped in wreckage, water rising behind a blocked river, and the damaged slope threatening to move again, reaching someone alive was only the beginning. Behind the disaster lay decades of slope failures, documented warnings, and decisions about where people could build. We examine why the debris traveled so far, what was known before the collapse, and why homes remained beneath the unstable hillside. Forty-three people lost their lives. The search for the last missing victim would take four months. This is the story of the community they left behind—and the people who kept searching. #OsoLandslide #DisasterDocumentary #Oso2014
