Go Among Us, Lord

Go Among Us, Lord | Moses' Prayer for God's Presence | Exodus 34:9 | Christian Scripture Song What do we need more than God's presence among us? After Israel sinned by worshiping the golden calf, Moses interceded for the people and pleaded for the Lord to remain with them. His prayer acknowledged their stubbornness, asked for forgiveness, and appealed to God's mercy. “If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us.” — Exodus 34:9 (KJV) “Go Among Us, Lord” is inspired by this remarkable moment of intercession and dependence upon God. SCRIPTURE FOUNDATION Exodus 33:12–17 — Moses asks for God's presence to accompany His people, recognizing that they cannot go forward without Him. Exodus 34:5–9 — God declares His mercy, grace, patience, and justice. Moses bows in worship and asks the Lord to go among Israel, pardon their sin, and take them as His inheritance. Psalm 51:10–12 — David asks God for a clean heart, a renewed spirit, and restored joy in His salvation. John 1:14 — The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, revealing God's glory in Jesus Christ. Matthew 28:20 — The risen Jesus promises to be with His disciples as they carry out His commission. THE MESSAGE Moses did not ask God to overlook Israel's rebellion. He acknowledged their sin and sought the Lord's forgiveness. Nor did Moses place his confidence in Israel's strength or achievements. He knew that God's presence was what distinguished His people. This prayer challenges us today. Do we seek God's gifts more than we seek Him? Do we acknowledge our sins and turn to Him, or do we excuse our disobedience? Are we trying to live faithfully through our own determination, or are we depending daily upon His grace? For followers of Jesus Christ, God's nearness is not merely a hopeful wish. Through Christ, believers have access to the Father and the indwelling Holy Spirit. That does not remove our need for repentance, obedience, prayer, and continual dependence upon the Lord. Whether you are facing spiritual struggles, recovery, grief, or uncertainty, may this song direct you to God's mercy and faithfulness. Go among us, Lord. Forgive us, lead us, and teach us to follow Jesus Christ.
