Watch Jax's latest talk here on South Dakota a contemporary of our combatants    • The USS South Dakota   King George V is the treaty battleship: designed to a 14-inch gun limit Britain kept even after rival navies invoked the escalator clause and moved up to 16 inches. Her quad-twin-quad layout packs 10 barrels into the tonnage limit, and her sister Prince of Wales was there at the Denmark Strait when Bismarck was finally run down. Tirpitz never got the chance to prove herself the way her sister Bismarck did. Based almost entirely out of Norwegian fjords as a fleet-in-being, she spent her career as a standing threat to Arctic convoys rather than a combatant, surviving midget-submarine raids and repeated air strikes before RAF Tallboy bombs finally capsized her at anchor in November 1944. On paper Tirpitz is heavier, faster, and hits harder per broadside. King George V has more gun barrels and, per this game's mod data, carries no torpedo tubes at all, where Tirpitz mounts eight.
