The 53rd PAN Music Festival 2025. October. 28. 19:30PM Ilshin Hall, Seoul Fabrik Quartet Concert Sarah Nemtsov "Weggeschliffen" for string quartet 2018년 초연된 "Weggeschliffen"(‘마모된’, ‘닳아 사라진’이라는 뜻)은 볼프강 아마데우스 모차르트의 현악사중주 C장조 K.465, 이른바 "불협화음 사중주"에서 영감을 받아, 그 한 구절을 작품 중심부에 은밀히 인용하고 있다. 넴초프는 이 작품을 통해 ‘불협화음(dissonance)’이라는 음악적 현상을 새롭게 탐구한다. 각 현악기의 한 줄은 조율을 바꾸어(Scordatura) 연주되며, 활 대신 나무 막대나 두꺼운 니트 바늘에 불균일하게 감긴 나일론 실로 연주해 “밝고, 투명하며, 예측 불가능한 소리”를 만들어낸다. 이 음향은 전자 증폭을 통해 확대되며, 세밀한 질감이 현미경 아래에서 드러나듯 새로운 차원의 청각적 경험을 제시한다. 형식적으로는 히브리어 알파벳의 첫 다섯 글자 - 알렙(Aleph), 베트(Beth), 기멜(Gimel), 달렛(Daleth), 헤(He) - 에 대응하는 다섯 악장으로 구성되어 있으며, 각 글자의 상징에서 음악적 이미지를 도출한다. 예컨대 ‘알렙’은 창조의 시작을, ‘베트’는 집(baith), ‘달렛’은 문(delet), ‘헤’는 숨(breath)을 상징하며, 마지막 악장에서 악기들은 점차 공기처럼 희미한 음향으로 사라진다. 악보 첫머리에는 파울 첼란의 시 Niemandsrose 중 한 구절이 인용되어 있다. “무거워져라. 그리고 가벼워져라.” 이 말처럼, 작품은 밀도와 투명함 사이를 오가며, 사라짐 속에서 존재를 드러낸다. Sarah Nemtsov's piece weggeschliffen was premieredin April 2018. The mission for the piece was to explore Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's famous "Dissonance Quartet" in C major KV 465, a quote from which is hidden in the centre of weggeschliffen. Thecomposition is a very individual approach to the musical phenomenon of dissonance: one string of each string instrument is played in scordatura, i.e. retuned, which, together with different playing techniques, results in sound qualities that go beyond conventional string quartet practice. At particular points, the instrument is not played with a bow, but with a special preparation, a wooden stick or a thick knitting needle wrapped unevenly with a nylon thread. The aim: "a bright, perforated, slightly unpredictable sound", as the score puts it. "When this is amplified, it just sounds richer. It's a bit like under a microscope, you can perceive it differently," explained Sarah Nemtsov in an interview for Ultraschall, Berlin. Formally and structurally, the piece is modelled on the first five letters of the Hebrew alphabet. The five sections of weggeschliffen are assigned to the first five letters: Aleph, for example, connects with the association of the beginning, creation, the biblical figure Adam and the Creator God. Beth sounds like Baith, Hebrew for "house". The letter Gimel is similar to the term Gamal for "camel", here Sarah Nemtsov has tried to find "earthy" sounds. The letter Daleth gives rise to the association Delet ("door"). In the final section with the letter He ("breath"), the meaning of breath plays an important role and the instruments move into a more airy register. The motto at the beginning of the score of weggeschliffen is a quote from Paul Celan's poem cycle Niemandsrose: "Become heavier. Be lighter."
