Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) passes away (1944 - 2019) (UK/USA) - BBC News - 3rd May 2019

The gentle giant at 7 feet 2 inches (at his peak 7 foot 3 inches), was given the role of Chewbacca in 1976 and made it his own, not speaking a single word in any Earthly language, he managed to convey so much in his ability to act the part of 'Chewie' in many of the Star Wars films, making lifelong friends with many cast and crew. A firm favourite amongst many fans both then, now and into the future. He died at the aged of 74. He died less than three weeks before his 75th birthday.
